Pharmacokinetic assessments and documentation of drug exposure are essential elements of all drug discovery and development endeavours. This research project aims to provide a technology platform for joint projects with investigators working in various fields of drug discovery and development. An automated system enabling frequent blood sampling from freely moving small laboratory animals and modern analytic instrumentation based on liquid chromatography and tandem mass spectrometry form the essential elements of this platform. Recent examples of the laboratory’s output are exemplified by the publications listed below, but a significant fraction of the laboratory’s projects represents contract research for small drug discovery companies. It is expected that this technology platform will help to promote both academic and commercial drug discovery and development activities in Finland.
